Speedway, IN – Opening practice for the third running of the Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis featured the normal cast of characters with Will Power leading the pack of Verizon IndyCar drivers.
As he has done at most of the events on the schedule this year, Team Penske driver Power turned the quickest lap with a tour around the road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1 minute and 9.8943 seconds for an average speed of 125.624 miles per hour.
Teammates Juan Pablo Montoya, Simon Pagenaud and Helio Castroneves occupied the third through fifth positions on the fastest lap list with Honda driver Graham Rahal splitting up the team in the second position with a fastest lap of 125,309mph.
Scott Dixon, Josef Newgarden, Marco Andretti, Sebastien Bourdais and Carlos Munoz filled out the top ten positions out of 24 drivers taking to the track.
Power is the defending champion of the event while Pagenaud won the inaugural event two years ago and is looking for his third series victory in a row after winning at Long Beach and Barber Motorsports Park.
